Coach Phil Gabrielsen is entering his 5th season with the Hawks and has coached Illinois high school hockey for 23 years and has been involved in Illinois hockey for 25 years. He has been awarded the Illinois "High School Coach of the Year" presented by AHAI; numerous times has been awarded the ISHL Coach of the year; had teams that have been the recipients of Sportsmanship Awards, presented by IHOA & ISHL. Phil has also coached numerous All Star teams and spent four years as a coach with the Illinois Showcase team, which represents the top high school players in Illinois in the annual Showcase tournament. His coaching staff has been together for more than 13 years and has been regular season champs numerous times, most recent 2014-15 & 2015-16 seasons. They have also made numerous appearances to league championships, most recent Cougar Cup finals 2015-16 & 2016-17 seasons; elite eight and final four of the state tournament. As a coaching staff, they have earned the respect of AHAI, IHOA as well as others in the Illinois hockey community by the way their teams handle themselves on and off the ice.

Coach Mark has been a youth and high school hockey coach in Illinois for 23 years, including 15 years at the High School level with the current staff. Recent accomplishments include back to back ISHL Championships (2014, 2015) and back to back visits to the Cougar Cup Finals (2015, 2016). Mark is a Level 4 coach with experience as head coach of several championship teams. He was named “Coach of the Year” in 2010 and participated as an All Star game coach in both the Illinois Suburban and Metro West high school leagues. He stresses conditioning, defensive strategies, game preparation and sports psychology.
“Confidence and mental strength are keys for success, players need to prepare both physically and mentally as a team in order to perform as a team on the ice.”
Goalie Coach/Assistant Coach Pete Garvey has spent 22 years coaching hockey at various levels and the past 14 as specifically a goalie coach. He has been part of this staff for 12 years as the goalie coach, but more importantly has a vast knowledge of the game of hockey which helps the entire staff. His techniques and teaching of the position improved every goalie he has instructed and some have been named All State & league All Stars.

Coach Dan has played hockey for over 21 years. He played for STCE all 4 years and was named All-star all 4 years as well as All-state defensman his senior year. Dan is a level 3 coach that has been coaching for 8 years and has accomplished a lot in that time. Coach Dan was awarded "Coach of the year" 2016-2017 season. Along with the 2014-2015, 2016-2017 seasons as consecutive Hayes Cup league champions lead by the JV Blue. Also the JV Blue team was awarded a certificate of achievement from the IHSHL Hayes Suburban division for outstanding efforts as well as a 22-0-0 regular season. Coach Dan is looking for a group of young men and women who are team players that work hard, are respectful and loyal. All of these traits added together will create great players and an incredible season for all to enjoy.
Coach Chris Bednarek played for Saint Charles East High School for both the Junior Varsity and Varsity. He played for Northern Illinois University Hockey club for 4 1/2 years while attending school. Chris began coaching in 2011 with the Cyclones squirt team. In 2012, he began coaching with the Fox Valley Hawks and is currently a level 3 coach.
Coach Steve Sokniewicz played high school hockey for St. Charles East, competing at both the JV and Varsity levels. In 2014, Steve began his coaching career with the Fox Valley Hawks. In just a few years, Steve has achieved numerous accomplishments as a coach including a Sportsmanship award, back-to-back Thanksgiving Tournament Championships and a League JV Championship. Steve’s focus is to create a fun atmosphere for his players, while also stressing a theme of accountability both on and off the ice. He is currently a level 4 certified coach.
Coach Kyle Wiley began his coaching career in 2016 with the Fox Valley Hawks JV Black team. During that season the JV Black team won the 2016-2017 ISHL Suburban League Sportsmanship award. He also has additional duties assisting coaching the goalies. Kyle believes dedication and effort are the 2 biggest traits any player can bring to the team.
